The Velvet Underground and Nico
German model and actress Christa Paffgen, a.k.a. Nico, started her musical career in London on 1965. Through her friend Brian Jones she knew The Rolling Stones' producer Oldham, who made her release the single I'm Not Saying/The Last Mile, on his new Immediate label. Jimmy Page worked on this record as composer and sessionman. On the old promo clip of this nice folk-pop tune her image is very different from the one of the "dark lady" we knew through her later solo career.
On '66 she moved to New York...and then everybody knows the story: she knew Andy Warhol, became "pop-girl" of the year, played a role on the movie Chelsea Girls and joined as chanteuse The Velvet Underground for a few months. Enough to appear on the multimedial events of the Plastic Exploding Inevitable Show, and give her voice to some of the most fascinating songs of the Velvets' memorable debut album.
On the second video the Velvets (without Nico) appears on an old black and white film, shooted by Lou Reed's schoolmate Rosalind Stevenson, while they are rehearseing the song Sunday Morning, which is used as background music.

Wow! What a thrill it is to see the Nico promo! I loved the brief extracts in the "NicoIcon" film and hoped I'd get to see the whole clip... many thanks for this! A very charming period piece indeed and a great snapshot of Nico before the Velvets and the drugs that ended up decimating her... she really was a beautiful woman at this time.
Keep up the good work!

can you please reupload sunday morning?
it's been deleted,
thank you.
"File not found", unfortunately, seems to be the current norm for these videos: too bad, since I love Velvets, Seeds, et al....
You got here too late...
